Cafe de Hong Kong

Been reading a lot of good reviews about this Hong Kong cafe which offer much more than an usual Hong Kong Cafe. They served zi char and seafood dishes too. We went there for dinner on Sunday. It was not very crowded yet as we were there early. We tried out some of the recommended dishes.

Nam Yu Crispy Roast Chicken (half chicken $17.00)

This was very highly recommended and blogged about. It was served with a nam yu dip instead of the usual 5 spice salt. The chicken was very well roasted as the skin was still crispy when served and the meat was very tender. Nice but I don't like the nam yu dip, maybe I don't like the strong distinctive taste. It's yummy enough without the dip

Stir Fry Red Garouper Slice w/Roasted Sauce ($20.00)

This was recommended by the staff claiming that their Chef used a special sauce for this. It was very nice even though I don't find the sauce very special. But I find it too expensive for that small portion. I think there were only 7-8 slices of fish.

Kurobuta Pork Chops ($10.00)

Another highly recommended dish. It was not bad almost similar to korean BBQ pork.

Vegetables w/Salted & Century Eggs in Soup ($10.00)

Our vegetable dish and it was quite nicely done up and the stock was quite rich & flavourful.

Lup Mei Fun ($32.00)

The 'Lup Mei' are all homemade so it was quite lean and fresh. I think the meat was too much and we don't really appreciate this dish. We still prefer the normal type of claypot rice with fresh chicken & salted fish.

Fragrant Fish Roe Fried Rice ($10.00)

This fried rice was yummy with bits of crunchy fish roes and sufficient "wok hei". A must try!

French Toast & Tea Set ($4.80)

The toast and milk tea were super and I think was one of the best I had so far. The tea was very fragrant and milky yet sweetness just right for me. As for the toast, was light and fluffy and i can easily finish up a piece by myself and still crave for more...

Dessert - Cold Black Sesame Paste ($2.50) & Mango Pudding ($3.50)

Tried 2 of the dessert. Just ordinary not very fantastic.

We enjoyed our meal in this cosy family restaurant and their service was adequate too. We will definitely go back again to explore this little treasure hut.
